the gulf coast water authority (gcwa) runs a water supply canal from the brazos river to the city of galveston. the canal passes 60 cfs and is approximately trapezoidal in cross-section with a side slope of 3:1 (h:v). at this 60 cfs flow rate, the cross-sectional area is 135 ft2. the canal is periodically excavated, yet does have some weed growth, especially along the side slopes. gcwa is concerned about possible contamination of its water supply, and wishes to ensure city of galveston customers will obtain clean water.
